The delegation of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO), led by Mr. Szabolcs Farkas was proud to participate in the 6th IP Case Law Conference organized by the EUIPO Boards of Appeal in Alicante.

This year’s theme, “Growing through Change,” captured the dynamic shifts taking place across the global IP landscape perfectly. During the two-day event our delegation joined top judges, legal practitioners, policymakers, and academics from across Europe and beyond to discuss the most pressing issues and developments in intellectual property adjudication.

Key highlights and discussions from the conference included:

  • The Future of Trade Mark Adjudication: The panel examined how courts handle signs beyond Latin and Cyrillic scripts, and how to navigate the evolving role of subcategory creation as well as how weak marks keep redefining the limits of protection.
  • The Design Law Revolution: Analyzing the real-world impact of the legislative overhaul of EU Design Regulations, including exceptions to the modular system and dilemmas surrounding of automotive spare parts.
  • IP in the Age of AI: Critical fireside chats about how Artificial Intelligence is rewriting the rules of legal research, predictability, and decision drafting.
  • Enforcement and Cross-Border Practices: Comparing how iconic marks are treated across major jurisdictions (EU, US, China, Japan, and South Korea), and addressing the liability of online platform and take-down notices.
