2026. February 20.

The Working Group on the Development of the Lisbon System for the Protection and International Registration of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications, established within the framework of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held its seventh meeting in Geneva from 17 to 19 February 2026. The Working Group elected Mr Csaba Baticz, Chief Advisor to the President on IP Law and Policy of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO), as its next Chair. This success further strengthens Hungary's already active presence in the international intellectual property (IP) system.

The recognition of HIPO and Hungary at WIPO and in international IP circles is well demonstrated by the fact that the position of Chair of the Budapest Union Assembly, established under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, is held by Mr Szabolcs Farkas, President of HIPO. At the meeting of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights in December 2025, Mr Péter Lábody, Vice President of HIPO for Legal and International affairs, was elected to the position of Chair of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) for the sessions in 2026 and 2027.
