Design Novelty search Service

The aim of our novelty search service is to assits in obtaining the information that may be necessary for design applications (whether they are under consideration or pending) or existing protection or for making decisions regarding existing protections.

We recommend using this service for those who are about to file an application for a design and wish to obtain well-founded information to decide whether it is worth filing a national application or applying for protection in other countries or regions, given the novelty and individual character of the design.

In addition, following the filing of the design application or after the grant of protection, we recommend that service for those who wish to obtain information on the novelty and individual character of the design, given that, pursuant to the amendments to the Hungarian Design Act in force since January 1, 2024, the Office will not examine these conditions for protection within the framework of the procedure for granting protection. In addition, in the case of design protection applications filed after the amendment of the Hungarian Design Act.

The Office shall prepare and send to the Client the search report on the search carried out, together with its annexes indicating any previously published designs which may be relevant to the novelty and individual character of the design under examination, within 30 days of receipt of the regular order containing the searchable representation(s) of the design and of the crediting of the service fee. The contents of the research report and its annexes shall not be disclosed to third parties and the HIPO shall not provide any information on its completion.

Price of the service (1 design): 88 900 Ft (70000 Ft + VAT).

The service may be ordered by handing in the signed order form (and the attached sample searchable diagram or ), which the Office has prepared for this purpose, to the Office, or by sending it by post or electronically (scanned as an attached file) to the e-mail address (design@hipo.gov.hu) .
