Warning: Fraudulent Payment Requests and Scam Emails
Information
2026. February 09.
The Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) hereby issues a formal warning concerning fraudulent email messages. These messages present themselves as official requests for the payment of fees in connection with the inclusion of registered trademarks in the TMview database.
Important information to help you identify such fraudulent messages:
- HIPO does not communicate with applicants or rightholders by emails in official matters.
- Such messages are not sent from a Hungarian email domain, nor from HIPO’s official email address.
- The wording of the messages does not comply with Hungarian spelling and grammatical standards.
- In official proceedings, HIPO always provides a Hungarian domestic bank account number.
Attention is further drawn to the fact that HIPO operates a free-of-charge, publicly accessible online database covering all forms of intellectual property protection, in which registration data may be reliably verified.
Clients are strongly advised to exercise due caution upon receipt of any suspicious communication and to contact HIPO’s Customer Service directly.
