The publication examines the economic weight of copyright-based industries in Hungary during the period between 1996 and 2003. The study provides a detailed analysis of the role of the cultural sector and creative industries in the economy, with particular attention to book publishing, the film industry, television broadcasting and music publishing. Using statistical data and international examples, the authors present the contribution of copyright-based activities to Hungary’s GDP. The aim of the publication is to draw attention to the economic importance of intellectual creations and the industries associated with them. The research also presents developments in European Union legal harmonisation and the evolution of Hungarian copyright regulation.
