The Hungarian Intellectual Property Office proceeds as designated office in connection with those international patent applications, where Hungary has been designated in the meaning of the Treaty, and proceeds as an elected office in cases where the applicant has elected Hungary as a Contracting State, where he or she wishes to use the outcome of the preliminary examination search; except if the international application requested a European patent extending on the territory of Hungary.
